Terengganu, a charming state in the East Coast, is renowned for its many artistic crafts. these include the weaving of songket; the adundance of sea produce; and fashioning intricate products of silver and copper. it is here that Malay craftmen have gathered since time immemorial to create masterpieces that are intrinsically and proudly Malay.
In the past, the Baju Melayu Teluk belanga, worn by Terengganu men, was styled shorter than what it is today. It was made of either Chinese silk or local woven cloth, complete with a songket or a Bugis samping or sash. The women’s Baju Kurung was also made of Chinese silk or Terengganu cloth and patterned with gold threadwork or floral designs. Other distinctive outfits included the Baju Melayu Cekak Musang worn by men and the Baju Kebaya, by women.
